Download Sierra through CLI

EDIT:
Apple’s readded sierra to MAS
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-sierra/id1127487414?mt=12

One of the changes that came with High Sierra’s release and affected fellow macadmins was the removal of Sierra from the app store.

For now, there’s a work around as Apple still has Sierra in the Software Update Catalogue

  1. Sign into the Mac App Store with an account that had Sierra
  2. Download Mas CLI https://github.com/mas-cli/mas
  3. Extract mac cli
  4. Drag mas into the Applications folder
  5. Open Terminal located in Applications -> Utilities
  6. type cd /Applications/
  7. type ./mas install 1127487414  This will download the installer Application
  8. Wait

Doesn’t work. I get a message about the re-download being unavailable either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled. None of those are the case. 🙁

      Try this
      ./mas signout
      ./mas signin –dialog yourappleaccounthere@apple.com

Same result. I tried from a machine that started life with Sierra, on a machine that had been upgraded to Sierra, and from a machine that has never had Sierra on it.

Believe me, , my 2011 got Sierra from the MAS.

Do you happen to have the macOS Sierra 10.12.6 item number? 12.5 is not working to install on TouchBar MacBooks.
